This is a review of the 2011 version -- I see that isn't currently selling it (when I wrote this review), but you can get it directly from ticotimes.net I agree with the reviewer who said there is a lot of advertising, but found the specific type of advertising more helpful than you might think. Also, there is information here that I didn't find in other guide books. So -- my brief recommendation is to buy this book along with a more traditional guide book. The accommodations descriptions are most likely paid ads, but they are 2-3 pages each with pictures so provide a good bit of information from which to make choices. Most were not listed in more traditional guidebooks and so I could consider these other venues (after researching them further on sites like tripadvisor). The book contains information I didn't find anywhere else outside CR -- bus schedules, lists of art galleries and book stores, houses of worship, internet cafes and laundromats (hard to find in CR), emergency contacts and a section for Gay & Lesbian travelers and disabled travelers. There are also sections on living and working in CR as well as investing there.
