What a delightful book!
These poems are to be devoured, read slowly in order not to miss any of the delicacy with which they have been composed. The images have been finely honed and the sounds just feel... delicious in the reader's mouth! With each poem is a page of accompanying information which, in every case, states an unusual fact about the creature featured, many of which will be unfamiliar to readers. In her poetry, Liz has perfectly captured what makes each one unique.
Of course, what remains to be commented upon are the statistics about these endangered animals. In fact, one or two featured are already extinct. As Dr. George McGavin writes in his foreword 'This lovely book may well last longer than some of the creatures it celebrates...'
